69 Belcher
San Francisco, CA
69 Belcher continues the exploration of building contemporary San Francisco. The textured bay corrugations looking up and down streets is abstracted and condensed into the image of the building. Projecting oversized staggered double hung windows alternate with walls. Traditional ornamental filagree is translated into the materiality of brickwork. White reflects the Mediterranean light. The dark ground floor makes the four levels above float on a single column.
The ground floor lobby lounge opens to a rear yard common garden with a contoured topography of small hills. Parking is in a basement below. Above, 31 two and three bedroom units are stacked in two bars around an open central court which provides light and air on both sides. This court is a community condenser where residents overlap in a vertical rear yard.
The rooftop is an energy field of solar panels and a shared roof deck with views downtown San Francisco beyond.
