2146 Third Street
San Francisco, CA
Third Street is a busy corridor with light rail and heavy traffic in transition, where the industrial landscape transforming to residential through adaptive reuse and new construction. Many of the large old structures are robust and simple, with small infill in between. This is a project to replace a two story 25’ wide building with new residences. To modulate domestic life on this transit corridor, alternating saw tooth bay windows are deployed to deflect view and sound up and down the street. In this neighborhood of tough industrial fabric, the language is singular and direct like the saw tooth sheds around, and vanishing.
